Major Data Breach At Citigroup User Account Data Has Leaked

According to reports from Reuters and the Financial Times there has been a major data breach at Citi Account Online, giving hackers access to all the sensitive data of hundreds of thousands of bank card customers.

The bank recently discovered unauthorized access at Citi Account Online through routine monitoring, a spokesperson told Reuters in an email. The information accessed includes the name of the customers, account numbers and contact information including email addresses. The bank said about 1 percent of its card customers were affected by the breach.

"We are contacting customers whose information was impacted. Citi has implemented enhanced procedures to prevent a recurrence of this type of event," the spokesperson said.

One decent revelation to come from Citi about the breach was that although account numbers may have been accessed other vital information such as birth dates, social security numbers, card expiration date and the card security codes (CVV) apparently weren't part of the breach.

Despite that information Citi cardholders should be on the look out for any fraudulent activity and they should beware of any possible phishing attempts that might look to gain access to anything further!
