YouTube Symphony Winners Announced

youtube logoYouTube today announced the winners of the first ever YouTube Symphony Orchestra. Orchestra will feature more 90 musicians from more than 30+ countries and territories.

Musicians from around the world were invited to submit audition videos to YouTube Symphony Orchestra Channel. Finalist were then selected by a panel of judges comprised of musical experts from the London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and other leading orchestras around the world. Those selected entrants were narrowed to a field of entries from localized YouTube countries to a group of semifinalists. In February, the YouTube community was invited to vote for their favorite semifinalists.

The 90 musician selected from the YouTube community will now travel to New York City to participate in a collaborative summit for classical music on April 12-15, 2009, concluding with a concert at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, San Francisco Symphony Music Director, New World Symphony Founder and Artistic Director, and London Symphony Orchestra Principal Guest Conductor.
